Awareness rising on environmentally sound use of interior materials and construction (GREEN-ICON)
The aim of project "GREEN-ICON" is to develop educational instruments for municipalities and other interested entities for them to be able to carry out much more qualitative Green public procurement.
Project is financed by the NordPlus programme (http://www.nordplusonline.org/adult), the partners are:

IESE in cooperation with socioantroplogists of the University of Latvia and with financial support of Latvian Environmental Protection Fund made a research on development of Latvian energy sector. Two action plans were developed as the result of the research: action plan for use of renewable energy sources and action plan for introduction of energy efficiency increase. Activities included in the plans are divided into two implementation projects - short term and average term activties, and are based on solutons in legislative, economical, and public information fields.
Results of the research were presented at the workshop "Latvian model of use of renewable energy sources and introduction of energy efficiency increase " (photos from the event) that took place at the Ministry of Environment on July 1st, 2009. More than 90 stakeholders participated in the workshop.

DETERMINATION OF ACTUAL ENERGETIC WOOD FLOW IN LATVIA
Contract report
The task of this work was to determine the flow of energetic wood in the year 2007, in Latvia. The assignment was to understand from what components (energy wood from the forest, from outside the forest, wood by-products and used wood) it is formed both in terms of volume and the determination of accuracy.
The study sponsor is the Forest Development Fund (Meža attīstības fonds) which Board considered proposals for submitted applications and determined the winner. As a result a contract with RTU Institue of Energy Systems and Environment for the implemetnation of the research was signed.

Yesterday higher education accreditation commission meeting took place at Ministry of Education and Science. In a secret ballot the doctoral study program „Environmental Engineering" (education classification code 51850) was accredited for six years.
Doctoral studies „Environmental Engineering" at Riga Technical University Faculty of Power and is being implemented since 2005. Currently 12 PhD students are studying in this program and after graduation a doctor degree in enviroenmental engineerieng will be confered to them.
