Birthday of Institute of Energy Systems and Enviroment (VASSI) is midsummer of year 2006 (decision of RTU Senate from 29/06/2006).Year 1997 is the begining of VASSI history.
Milestones of VASSI develoment:
1991: Beginning of cooperation between two professors - Ivars Veidenbergs and Dagnija Blumberga (USAID program, ERAB energy efficiency loan programme, NUTEK project)
1996: Professor Dagnija Blumnerga pubishes her first monograph "Energy Efficiency"
1997: Two professor places that can be considered as a very beggining of VASSI development were approved by RTU Senate on 29/09/2007 - "Environmental Science" and "Heat Supply Systems"
1998: Two new structural units were created at the Department of Energy and Power Engineering of RTU - Heat Supply System professor's group (Head of the group: dr.hab.sc.ing. professor Dagnija Blumberga) and Environmental Science professor's group (Head of the group: dr.hab.sc.ing. professor Ivars Veidenbergs). Cooperation with Nordic country universities has started.
2000: RTU Sustainable Development Information and Study Center (IAISC) was developed
2002: Two professor's groups were merged into Department of Energy Systems and Enviroment (VASSK)
2006: IAISC and VASSK merge to create Institute of Energy Systems and Enviroment (VASSI)
There are three scientific research laboratories in VASSI.
Head of the Institute is professor Dagnija Blumberga.
