Within the framework of pupils' summer camp „The World Requires Technical Minds" which was organized by RTU the pupils visited Institute of Energy Systems and Environment (IESE) on 30th June and 1st July.
Camp participants were acquainted with the Institute's activities and scientific directions, allowing to operate in practice in the audience and in the environmental monitoring laboratory, where they verified how in life works solar cells and fuel cells. Also the solar collector, water boiler and a stand for determination the efficiency of heating furnace was viewed. Infrared spectrum camers where used to see the world and each other in different colors. And of course everyone had a chance to make sure that energy effective light bulbs really use less energy than incandescent bulbs and the main causes for that were looked at.
By playing a role-play „Green City" pupils' were able to realise that the learning process can be interesting and exciting. Playing the game everyone was able to imitate a real urban activity, while simulating different parts: city council, residents and buisness representatives of various roles.
„Role-play is the easiest way to provide knowledge for people with different interests and opinions on certain issues, in the same time allowing them to keep their individuality," says Dace Zahare - the main orginezer of activities in IESE. Photographs, program and the list of participants of the camp can be found here (in Latvian).
