Environamental Management System developed by IESE students has been certified E-mail

In August 22, 2011 the health cares' waste management company Ltd. „Lautus", a partner of project "The best technologies and techniques for demonstration and promotion of health-care waste reduction, to prevent dioxin and mercury into the environment" (hereinafter - Project) funded by the Development Programme of the United Nations (UN) and the Global Environment Facility, has obtained an environmental management system certification according to ISO 14001:2004 standard. The certification of environmental management system was done by Ltd. „Bureau Veritas Latvia", which represents the international classification society "Bureau Veritas".
The development of company's environmental management system was carried out in Riga Technical University, Institute of Energy Systems and Environment by first year students of Master study program in Environmental Science under the guidance of docent Sarma Valtere and lecturer Silvija-Nora Kalniņš within the study subjects' „Environmental management systems" framework.
Participating students in the development of environmental management system admitted that this kind of cooperation is the best way how to put the theoretical knowledge acquired in lectures on environmental technologies in practice.
After the words of the director of IESE Dagnija Blumberga - over the years students' cooperation with companies has become an inalienable part of the learning process, which is a win-win for all involved parties.
