The aim of the Combustion Research laboratory (CRL) is to research, simulate and develop biomass heating systems. The main lines of action are to research and optimize combustion processes. Laboratory is equipped with modern analytic equipment which allows measurements of efficiency of heating systems and amount of emissions created. Furnace efficiency and amounts of emissions are determined according to Latvian Standard methods (LVS NE 303-5 and LVS NE 13240/AC).
In addition, the research into methods of reducing harmful emissions from combustion processes. Some of these methods are patented and are practiced in Latvia.
In the near future the CRL plans to start research into biomass gasification processes, which includes both, theoretical and practical research.
Combustion Research laboratory participates in an academic processes of Institute and in scientific researches and projects.
Laboratory also provide commercial services related to testing of combustion equipment. The staff is qualified to carry out measurements in boiler houses, factory’s and other objects. Also it is possible do to boiler house audits including full or partial energy and mass balance calculations.
