About seminar „Renewable Energy Resources for Heat Supply in Buildings”

Seminar „Renewable Energy Resources for Heat Supply in Buildings” took place at Riga Technical University on February 24, 2010. The main question was: how to increase the use of renewable energy resources in conditions of decentralized heat supply system. Attention was paid to both multi-apartment buildings and one-family houses.

Analysis of legislation for use of solar energy and wood pellets in power industry of Latvia was presented during the seminar. A presentation about solar energy systems and how to use those in combination with biomass technologies was given.
Information about wood resources, its use in heat supply and available technologies was presented by professor of RTU. Advantages of using this energy resource and the meaning of efficiency in boilers, furnaces and other technologies were reviewed.
Chief of wood pellet boilers` company SIA “Grandeg” was presenting different technologies for burning pellets. There were also discussions about different kinds of biomass – from pellets to grains. This issue nowadays is important for farms when they have to choose between proportion of appropriate fuel`s kind and price.
The insight in the project with complex solutions for apartment building heat supply was provided. In the demonstration project there is plan to place solar collectors on the roof and to put container-type boiler house near the building to substitute the existing fossil fuel boiler.
Seminar have been supported by funding of European Economic Area financing mechanism`s co-financed programme „Integration of environmental policy in Latvia”.
